“Where the Sidewalk Ends”

At the end of the first half of the school year, DC Prep has a festival. This was Najwa’s first year at the middle school campus where she was now one of the new kids, the young kids, among the others ranging up to the 8th grade.

In her quest to get comfortable presenting in front of crowds, she volunteered to read a poem for the winter festival event called “An Evening in Paris.” All her previous activities were done as a class where she could blend in with her classmates, but this was her first time doing a solo act.

Needlessly to say Nduku and I were both impressed with Najwa’s composure and proud that she made this decision by herself and saw it to the end.
